About me
Josep Tous is a former director of the Consumer Protection Agency for the Catalan government in Spain. For the last twenty years, he has been the General Director of his own company, ieConsumo SL, based in Barcelona. As a result of his experience as a public officer in product safety, he advises and works for companies on agreeing on corrective measures with market surveillance authorities and implementing recalls, voluntary notification, and progress reports worldwide.
Josep works for multiple countries/jurisdictions, drafting product safety legal frameworks, enforcing best practices in market surveillance, training inspectors to monitor markets, and capacity analysts to perform risk assessments. Tous has collaborated in significant projects led and financed by the European Commission, UNCTAD-United Nations, Gulf Standardization Organization, Organization of American States, Pan American Health Organization, etc.
He learned to codify incidents by implementing a three-year project of the Injury Report Data Program (PIPADI) in Spain. He assists companies in performing consumer product risk assessment from the market surveillance authority's perspective RAPEX system. He has also developed software for this purpose.
He ran several online courses on product safety for Latin American officers and governments. He was a Special Advisor and Academic Coordinator for the Organization of American States (OAS/PAHO) for the Consumer Safety and Health Network, implementing a system similar to RAPEX and cross-border cooperation. He has been a lecturer at several European Universities in the product safety field.
